How to Increase Employee Motivation
Increasing
employee motivation means looking at what drives employees to perform at their
best and creating an environment where they can do so.
Here are some actionable ways to increase employee motivation in your workplace.
1. Give employees goals they can control
Having a sense of autonomy and control contributes strongly
to employee motivation. It makes sense - employees won’t feel like there’s much
point to performing at their best unless they feel they have ownership over
what they do and contribute.
2. Improve communication
The easiest way to increase employee
motivation is by having positive communication at the workplace. Not relying
only on emails but by making sure they talk to their employees in person and
even on a personal level, if possible. Strengthening communication between
employees and their direct managers strongly affects how motivated employees

impacts how they feel about their job.
3. Value individual
contributions
Employees will take pride and be
engaged in their work if they are aware how their efforts create an impact the
organization; regardless of how big or small their contributions are.
4. Positive workplace environment
Employees' energy level is affected by their surroundings, as examples; Keeping it welcoming, upbeat, and comfortable with everything they need to do their jobs well helps employees feel valued and keeps motivation levels high. Sometimes, the employees lack motivation because their workplace does not have a positive work environment. To fix this, management could sent out surveys and get feedback from employees in order to solve the issues that they may face.

A compelling way to motivate any employee, from the new grads working entry-level positions to the highest-level leaders, is straightforward - say thank you. And don’t just say it once because it needs to be frequent and genuine for recognition and appreciation to be effective. Recognizing employees for a job well-done means showing them you notice their efforts to perform well and appreciate what they do.

Moreover, motivation as defined by Robbins (1993) is the “willingness to exert high levels of effort toward organizational goals, conditioned by the effort’s ability to satisfy some individual need.” A need in this context is an internal state that makes certain outcomes appear attractive. An unsatisfied need creates tension that stimulates drives within the individual. To achieve organizational goal, it is important to combine the correct motivational resources with successful management and leadership in as much as motivation impacts on employee performance (Haque, Haque & Islam, 2014).
ReplyDeleteHi Nadula Agreed what you mentioned, Unmotivated employees do not take an interest in their organization. They include in spreading 'rumors'. There is no co-operation from unmotivated employees to the Organization. Motivated employees always work towards to achieve organizational goals .

Moreover, Initial studies found that if an individual engaged freely in an activity (out of interest) and was subsequently offered an external reward such as money (Deci 1971) or points (Lepperet al. 1973) for engaging in that activity, then intrinsic motivation toward the activity declined. Although these initial findings were controversial because they challenged operant theories of behavioral reinforcement, a subsequent meta-analysis affirmed that when extrinsic rewards are expected and tangible, they indeed undermine intrinsic motivation for an activity (Deciet al. 1999). Extrinsic motivation is governed by reinforcement contingencies. (Deci et al., 1999).

research suggests that as employees' income increases, money becomes less of a motivator (Kovach, 1987). Also, as employees get older, interesting work becomes more of a motivator.
